Two-Day National Conference on “Kautilya’s Arthashastra: Ancient Wisdom and Contemporary Legal Thought
The National Law University, Tripura successfully organised a two-day National Conference on “Kautilya’s Arthashastra: Ancient Wisdom and Contemporary Legal Thought” on 28–29 March 2026. The conference was hosted by the Kautilya Centre for Law and Economics and the Centre for Study and Research in Vedic Jurisprudence, in collaboration with the Law Department, Government of Tripura, and the Tripura Law Training Institute.
The inaugural session featured eminent dignitaries including Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Tripura, Shri Subhash Sikdar, Director, TLTI Agartala., Ms. Sankari Das, Law Secretary, Government of Tripura in abtentia , Prof. V.K. Ahuja, Director, ILI, New Delhi with his virtual presence , Prof. (Dr.) T.S. Somashekhar of NLSIU Bangalore, and Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Arunoday Saha, former Vice-Chancellor, Tripura University. Their addresses highlighted the interdisciplinary relevance of ancient legal philosophy in contemporary frameworks. The seminar comprised a total of seven technical sessions, of which two were conducted in offline/physical mode and four in online mode, followed by an online valedictory session. Overall, the conference successfully fostered dialogue between historical insights and present-day legal challenges, encouraging academic engagement with indigenous knowledge systems.
