The Centre for Study and Research in Vedic Jurisprudence

The Centre for Vedic Jurisprudence (CVJ) at National Law University Tripura is a centre for the study and research of the ‘Vedic Corpus’ in India. In modern times, it is commonly believed among jurists, particularly of the Western world, that jurisprudence-the science and philosophy of law-is a contribution of solely western thinkers. However, Indian civilization is one of the ancient civilizations of the world, and such civilizations could not have flourished without the basic foundations of law and jurisprudence. Therefore, the CVJ intends to explore contributions of the often overlooked ancient Indian Vedic Corpus of legal philosophy and study how it can transform contemporary India.
