Zero Tolerance for Ragging in NLU Tripura

National Law University, Tripura (NLU Tripura) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and conducive learning environment for all its students. In line with this commitment, the university has adopted a Zero Tolerance Policy for Ragging. Ragging in any form—physical, verbal, or psychological—will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This policy aims to prevent ragging and promote a culture of mutual respect, empathy, and discipline within the campus community.

Objectives of the Zero Tolerance Policy

  • To create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
  • To prevent any form of ragging or harassment within the university premises.
  • To establish a strong mechanism for reporting, investigating, and taking swift action against incidents of ragging.
  • To raise awareness among students, faculty, and staff about the consequences of ragging and the importance of maintaining a respectful campus culture.
  • To promote healthy interaction, mentorship, and camaraderie among students.

Preventive Measures

NLU Tripura has implemented several provisions and preventive measures to ensure a ragging-free campus:

  • Anti-Ragging Committee and Squad: The university has constituted an Anti-Ragging Committee and an Anti-Ragging Squad comprising senior faculty members, administrative staff, and student representatives. These bodies are responsible for monitoring, preventing, and addressing any incidents of ragging.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Regular awareness programs, workshops, and orientation sessions are conducted for students to educate them about the harmful effects of ragging, the legal consequences, and the need to foster a respectful environment.
  • Anonymous Reporting Mechanism: The university provides an anonymous reporting mechanism for students to report incidents of ragging without fear of retaliation. Complaints can be submitted through an online portal, dedicated email, or suggestion boxes placed around the campus.
  • Counselling Services: The university offers counselling services to students who may have faced or witnessed ragging. Counselling is provided by trained professionals to ensure mental and emotional well-being.
