One-Week Workshop on Civil Procedure Code: A Practitioner’s Perspective” from August 18-23, 2025
The National Law University, Tripura organized a one-week workshop on “Unlocking the Civil Procedure Code: A Practitioner’s Perspective” from 18th August to 23rd August 2025. The workshop aimed to provide students with a comprehensive and practice-oriented understanding of the procedural aspects of the Civil Procedure Code, 1908, with particular emphasis on the essential stages of a civil suit and the practical application of various provisions.
The workshop commenced on 18th August 2025 with the formal welcome of the resource person, Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar and Associate Professor, Dharamshastra National Law University, Jabalpur, by Dr. Jayanta Dhar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Nehru, Ph.D. Scholar (Full-time), NLUT. The inaugural session introduced the Code of Civil Procedure and discussed the essential stages of a civil suit, setting the tone for the following days of intensive learning. On 18th and 19th August, the sessions focused on the effect of parallel proceedings and the bar of further suits under Sections 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 44A of the CPC, along with Orders 6, 7, and 8 relating to pleadings.
On 20th August, the sessions dealt with the first hearing and framing of issues under Order 14, as well as special suits including set-off, counter-claim, and interpleader suits under Section 88 read with Order 35. The discussions provided clarity on the nuances of these provisions and their importance in civil litigation. The session of 21st August was devoted to supplemental proceedings under Sections 94 and 95, covering arrest and attachment under Order 38, temporary injunctions under Order 39, and the appointment of a receiver under Order 40. These discussions highlighted the importance of interim measures in protecting the interests of litigants during the pendency of suits.
On 22nd and 23rd August, the focus shifted to execution of decrees under Sections 36-74 read with Order 21, covering a wide range of topics including the meaning and scope of execution, the jurisdiction of executing courts, parties in execution proceedings, limitation, questions to be determined by the executing court, execution applications, modes and processes of execution, and the effect of defects in the process. The detailed deliberations enabled participants to grasp the procedural complexities involved in executing decrees effectively.
The workshop concluded on 23rd August 2025 with the felicitation of Dr. Praveen Tripathi by Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar, NLUT. The week-long event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Jayanta Dhar, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Nehru, Ph.D. Scholar (Full-time), who ensured smooth conduct of the sessions. The workshop proved to be a highly enriching academic exercise, equipping the students with critical insights into the Code of Civil Procedure from a practitioner’s perspective.
