A guest lecture on the topic “Understanding Rights, Remedies, and Commercial Realities for MSMEs in India” was conducted for B.A. LLB students on July 31, 2025 as part of the university’s ongoing initiative to integrate practical exposure into legal education. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Pranshu Kaushal, a distinguished legal professional currently practicing as an Advocate at the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, as well as before various Courts and Tribunals in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He has served as arguing counsel for clients before the Labour Court and the Micro & Small Enterprises Facilitation Council, giving him rich practical experience in the field of MSME-related legal matters. Mr. Kaushal holds an LL.M. in Comparative Law (Business and Corporate) from the University of San Diego, California, United States, and is a regular visiting lecturer at various law institutions across the country. His scholarly work and research have been acknowledged by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, and he actively writes on corporate and legal issues through his blogs.

During the session, Mr. Kaushal provided students with a comprehensive overview of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector from a legal standpoint. Emphasizing the significance of the MSMED Act, 2006, the lecture moved beyond mere classification of enterprises to focus on core legal and commercial challenges faced by MSMEs in India. These included issues like delayed payments from buyers, breach of contractual obligations, and the limited capacity of MSMEs to access and afford prolonged litigation. He provided a practical analysis of the available remedies under the current legal framework, particularly highlighting the institutional mechanism of the Facilitation Council and the importance of arbitration in dispute resolution. By drawing on real case examples and judicial developments, he contextualized how the legal rights of MSMEs are asserted and enforced in the field.

The lecture was deeply engaging, with Mr. Kaushal encouraging students to think critically about the intersection of statutory protection and business realities. He also addressed questions from students related to the procedural bottlenecks MSMEs face, the enforceability of arbitral awards, and the proactive role that legal professionals can play in empowering smaller enterprises. His insights helped bridge the gap between black-letter law and commercial practice, making the session particularly relevant for students aspiring to work in the areas of corporate law, arbitration, and business advisory. Overall, the session was enriching, informative, and successful in providing students with a grounded understanding of how legal systems function in support of economic justice and entrepreneurial development.
