About Dr. Bandita Sengupta
Dr. Bandita Sengupta is a practiced legal savant with a intense expertise in Intellectual Property Rights, Patent Law and Constitutional Law. Holding a B.A.LL.B (Hons.) from Assam University, Silchar, and an LL.M. (IPRs) and Ph.D. (Patent Law) from Tripura University (A Central University), Suryamaninagar, she has developed a robust foundation in legal studies, which is further extended by specialized courses in the Constitution of India, Environmental Governance, and Intellectual Property Law from prestigious institutions such as NLSIU Bangalore, IIT Madras, and NLU Delhi.
Dr. Bandita has made weighty handouts to the academic and legal cliques through various publications, including newspaper columns, book chapters and journal articles. Notable works include research on the IPRs protection of traditional knowledge, implications of the TRIPS Agreement for developing countries, and the role of local working requirements under the Indian patent regime. These works are presented and published in reputed national and international platforms, contributing to the discourse on globalization, environmental law, IPRs, Patent Law.
With extensive teaching experience, Dr. Bandita served as an Assistant Professor at ICFAI Law School, ICFAI University Tripura (May 2022 – January 2024), and the Indian Institute of Legal Studies (IILS), University of North Bengal (February 2019 – February 2020). Additionally, she taught Commercial Law as a Guest Faculty at Ramakrishna Mahavidyalaya, Kailashahar, Tripura (August 2017 – December 2018). These roles reflect a deep commitment to legal education, mentoring students, and advancing scholarly discourse. She also possesses practical legal experience, having served as an Advocate at the Bar Council of Tripura, representing clients at the High Court of Tripura (January 2011 – June 2012). This practice experience is complemented by a role as a Law Clerk and Researcher at the High Court of Judicature, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh under the stewardship of Hon’ble Justice Rakesh Tiwari (January 2010 – December 2010), where Dr. Bandita gained valuable insights into judicial processes and legal research. Further enriching this experience is a summer internship at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi (May 2008 – June 2008), which provided exposure to human rights issues and their legal implications. She also dedicated several years to rigorous academic research as a Ph.D. scholar in the Department of Law, Tripura University (September 2014 – July 2017), focusing on critical issues in IPRs law and implications on society.
