About Dr. Barnali Das
Dr. Barnali Das is teaching Sociology at National Law University, Tripura. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and an M.A. in Sociology from IGNOU. She is also a qualified dental surgeon, having earned her BDS from Regional Dental College, Guwahati, under Gauhati University. She has cleared the UGC-NET in Sociology and was awarded the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship in 2015.
Before joining NLU Tripura, Dr. Das served in various academic and healthcare roles, including as a dental surgeon under the State Health and Family Welfare Society, Tripura, and as a Sociology lecturer at several institutions such as Kabi Nazrul Mahavidyalaya, Sonamura, Tripura, Women’s College, Agartala, and Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Agartala, Tripura. She has also served as an academic counsellor for IGNOU and examiner for MBB University.
Dr. Das is an active researcher and contributor to both national and international journals, conferences, and edited volumes. Her research spans socio-economic development, public health and education particularly in North-East India. She has also presented papers in National and International conferences and attended at global health and policy forums. She has also published creative works in Bengali and English.
She is a life member of the Indian Sociological Society (ISS) and the All-Tripura Diabetic Forum, a member of the Indian Dental Association (Tripura State Branch) and is a founding member of the CSMCH Film Club at JNU.
