Nukkad Natak “Jago Grahak Jago – Humara Haq, Humari Awaaz
On 24th March 2026, the Legal Aid Society of National Law University Tripura organized a nukkad natak titled “Jago Grahak Jago – Humara Haq, Humari Awaaz” at Ujjayanta Palace, Agartala. The event was conducted under the guidance of the faculty advisor, Miss Dipika Jamatia, and was attended by a good and responsive crowd. The main aim of this street play was to create awareness among the public about their rights as consumers and to encourage them to take action against unfair trade practices.
The nukkad natak presented a simple and relatable story of a common family facing everyday consumer problems. It showed how the family was cheated in different ways, by being sold expired food products, being charged more than the MRP without receiving a bill, and falling victim to an online fraud through misleading advertisements. These scenes reflected real-life situations that many people face but often ignore due to lack of awareness.
Through clear dialogues and engaging performances, the play highlighted important provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. It explained the six basic consumer rights, including the Right to Safety, Right to Information, Right to Choose, Right to be Heard, Right to Seek Redressal, and Right to Consumer Education. The entry of a legal aid volunteer in the play demonstrated how easy it is to file a complaint in the Consumer Court and seek justice.
The courtroom scene was particularly impactful, as it showed how the victims received refund and compensation for the wrongs committed against them. This helped the audience understand that the law supports consumers and that no complaint is too small to be addressed.
The use of slogans, group participation, and direct interaction with the audience made the performance lively and effective. It successfully grabbed public attention and delivered a strong message about being aware and responsible consumers.
Overall, the event was a successful initiative by the Legal Aid Society, reflecting its commitment to spreading legal awareness and serving the community. The nukkad natak left the audience with a clear message ‘stay alert, know your rights, and do not hesitate to raise your voice against injustice’.
