Special Lecture on Public Health Issues delivered by Dr. Shalini Singh & Prof.(Dr.) Shekhar Kashyap
On 19th February 2026, a Special Lecture on Public Health Issues was conducted at the premises of our university under the flagship of Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University Tripura. In the first session of lecture, Dr. Shalini Singh, Director of the ICMR-NIPCR, Noida and WHO FCTC, NTTL, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has addressed audience on the topic titled “Demystifying cancer and the role of preventive oncology”, and identified modifiable and non-modifiable risks of cancer. She has highlighted core concept like preventable cancers, causes of cancer like excessive use of tobacco, e-cigarettes ban in India and HPV related cancers. Her session provided valuable clarity on evidence-based strategies to reduce cancer risk and promote healthier life-styles. In second phase, Prof.(Dr.) Shekhar Kashyap, Interventional Cardiologist discussed on “Nicotene Dependence: Harm Reduction and Harm Retribution”, where Sir has undermined the scope of Global burden of disease Study 2019, types of addictive substances, tobacco-free nicotines and Nicotinism. His deliberations underscored the urgent need for awareness, regulation and effective public health intervention by the state and community. The intellectual discussion proved to be highly informative and impactful, enriching participants including faculty members, research scholars, students with deeper insights into contemporary public health challenges and the importance of preventive strategies.
