Pro Bono Club

Pro Bono Club

Overview

The Pro Bono Club of NLU Tripura has been established to advance the spirit of voluntary legal service and uphold the constitutional promise of equal access to justice. While the Pro Bono Legal Services Programme, launched in April 2017 by the Department of Justice, seeks to build a nationwide culture of free legal assistance, the University’s initiative translates this vision into action at the grassroots level.

Aligned with platforms like the Nyaya Bandhu App, which connects underprivileged citizens with volunteer advocates, the Club seeks to extend legal support, awareness, and guidance to marginalized communities in and around Tripura. Its activities include on-field legal aid work, collaborations with NGOs and legal service authorities, community outreach, seminars, and campaigns on contemporary legal and social issues.

For students, the Pro Bono Club acts as a bridge between classroom learning and societal engagement. It provides hands-on exposure to client interaction, research, drafting, and advocacy, while instilling values of empathy, responsibility, and ethical practice. In doing so, it not only strengthens access to justice but also nurtures the next generation of socially conscious lawyers.
