Access to information is a fundamental right under Article 19(1) of the Constitution of India, under which every citizen has freedom of speech and expression and access to authentic information is important for development, democracy, and equality. Tripura Dialogue Forum (TDF) is a platform created at National Law University Tripura, is an initiative aimed at promoting dialogue and discussion on various issues related to the state of Tripura to discover and spread ideas that spark innovation, embrace possibility, and amplify the impact. The coveted forum provides a platform for legal eagles from myriad fields of academics, research, activists, heads of regulatory bodies, and legal professionals to exchange views but also engage in constructive conversations about regional development, social issues, and governance. Tripura, with its unique socio-political landscape and diverse cultural heritage, presents a range of opportunities as well as challenges. Tripura Dialogue Forum aims to bridge gaps in understanding and foster cooperation across different sectors of society. The forum also serves as a platform for raising awareness about Tripura’s unique challenges and opportunities on a broader stage. By engaging with national and international stakeholders, TDF helps to highlight the state’s issues and attract attention and resources that can support its development. The TDF desires to organize various events, to foster sustainable development, social harmony, and cultural exchange.

VISION

  • Inclusive Dialogue:  Promoting a platform where various voices and perspectives are heard, leading to a comprehensive and balanced discussion on regional issues.
  • Collaborative Solution: Encouraging joint efforts among different sectors to address challenges and leverage opportunities for the overall state’s development.
  • Empowerment and Engagement: Empowering local communities especially women and students to actively participate in decision-making and contribute to the state development goals.
  • Enhanced Awareness: Raising awareness about Tripura’s unique needs and opportunities, both within the state and on a broad scale.

MANDATE

Facilitate Inclusive Dialogue: To establish and maintain a platform for open and inclusive discussion among diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, academics, and legal professionals to address key legal issues.

Research and Advocacy: To engage in research on prevalent legal issues affecting the society and advocate for policy reforms or new policies which are based on research and outcomes of dialogue and discussions.

Capacity Building: To train law students and professionals to encounter the current political, social, and other issues and commitment to public service.

Monitoring and Evolution:  To assess the impact of collaborative initiatives and discussions, ensuring that goals are achieved and also providing recommendations for improvement. To organize expert lectures to facilitate productive discussions and debates.

EVENTS

  • Tripura Dialogue Forum (TDF) organized its inaugural expert talk on “Constitutional Ethos” which was delivered by Sri Siddharta Shankar Dey, Learned Advocate General of Tripura, on December 02, 2023.
  • Tripura Dialogue Forum organized its second TDF Talk on “Combatting Corruption and Challenges Concerning the State of Tripura and the North Eastern Region” on May 06, 2024. The distinguished speaker for the event was the Lokayukta of Tripura, Sri Kalyan Narayan Bhattacharyya.
